Giving up the ghost đź‘»

“Giving up the ghost” is a saying I’ve heard for years… it’s general meaning is when a machine or inanimate object “dies,” wears down or stops working.

Recently the phrase has been passing through my head in a very different context. I’ve been working with people who are still holding on to memories, beliefs and patterns from a long distant path. These holdings have stopped serving them yet still are there. They are like ghosts in a shell, remnants from a past floating through, hard to find, draining energy and causing a mess.

The way forward??
“Give up your ghosts.”

The past is the past and will always have an affect on the future as it did occur. However the past does not need to have a control on the future.

Acknowledgement, acceptance and allowing of the past as the past as it was and not as it will be is one way to “give up our ghosts.”

It’s not a denial of, rather an alignment with.
